![]() Q: The VIN is 0Y71Y168975 if i read the vin decoder accurately, this should be a 1960, 2 door tudor hardtop, assembled at the Wixom plant, with a 352 and was the 168,975th unit assembled that year.Ī: Almost correct: the consecutive unit number needs to ignore the "1" at the beginning: it's actually the 68,975th T-bird built for the model year. That's a LOT of questions: Let's try to tackle a few of them. Thanks in advance for your guidance and input.Īny other things that could be missing that would be hard to replace (like the evaporator box) What else do i need to look for on how good the body is? will hope to get it on a stand and look underneath - will focus on the floor pan, trunk pan, rocker panels - what else? What do i need to focus on during the test drive re drive train issues - obviously noises, not going into 1 or more gears - starting with brake on (at least i have been told this demonstrates something about either the clutch or some other aspect of the transmission) - does it stop (hopefully!!!!) - but what else - any tips or tricks with this make/model to be on the watch for? ![]() Understanding that I am not looking to make this a concours car - if it were a 390 instead of a 352 - is that good? bad? indifferent? any issues or problems on mating with mounting brackets? transmission issues? other? Other than that, i need to hunt down the casting number on the block and heads to see if it is just a newer manifold, or complete engine swapout.Ĭar has factory air (although no belt, but compressor turns nicely) - don't know if evaporator box is there as i didn't know what it was and to look for it - i will next visit.ĭoes this seem a reasonable asking price based on the above (please assume for these purpsoses that the car drives (i will confirm later in the week, with electrical working moderately well) - car supposed to have "spongy" brakes as it hasn't been driven for a while (read 2 to 3 years - but it has been "moved" around a few times (as recently as a couple of months ago) - so representation is that it drives - so also assume it goes into all gears and the transmission works (no guarantee that it won't break the next day.I know)? Rax ( - highly recommend his sight and commend him for giving generously of his time to an unknown newbie), i now know this is not the engine that came with the car - at least it is not the original manifold. ![]() The engine has the following casting number on the intake manifold: C1AE9425B - thanks to Mr. Can confirm the body is the 1960 2 door tudor hardtop from the various spots where the "new" cra**y paint has peeled away, i can confirm the color is right althought replaced, the inside vinyl is black and white the headliner looks original (white perforated, aged looking but in good shape) The data plate, revealed when opening the drivers side door, yields the following: Body 63A, Color X, Trim 56, Date 15F, Tran 4, Axle 3. The VIN is 0Y71Y168975 if i read the vin decoder accurately, this should be a 1960, 2 door tudor hardtop, assembled at the Wixom plant, with a 352 and was the 168,975th unit assembled that year. I can't tell what parts, if any, of the body sheet metal have been replaced - one guess is the driver's side rocker panel - as it seems a bit bulky and not smooth (and the first layer is peeling off. Some things (apart from the poor paint) have also been redone - hoses look newer dash is newer seat vinyl looks newer. ![]() Otherwise, the car looks like it is in remarkably good condition (to my unexperienced eye) - that is, no rust through any part of the body minor surface rust on some spots (e.g., underside of Hood). It was painted over and the new paint was a terrible job and is peeling off. New to the world of classic cars, but searching for first vehicle to start the hobby. ![]()
